Works

Remove and reconstruct new railway crossing on busy crossing including:

  • Remove track and start drainage outlet
  • Jetvac services
  • Excavate to grade and lay cloth
  • Place drainage layer
  • Backfill with ballast while still completing drainage and excavating – it all happened in a continuous flow.
  • Complete ballast and grade as you place
  • Lift track set in, backfill track
  • Place rubber mats
  • Join all tiebacks on mats
  • Complete asphalting and clean up
  • Independent Contractors supplied various materials and specialist services – Goodmans managed the programme and critical milestones.
  • Huge push on the contract to get a large volume of work completed in a single weekend. Completion on time – 8pm Sunday night.

  • Excavators – 20 tonne, 2x 14 tonne rubber tyre, 4 tonne
  • 2x additional 20 tonne excavators used to lift track sets
  • Belly grader with laser control
  • Rollers – 1 tonne and 3 tonne
  • 12 tonne Loader
  • 2x 6 wheeler trucks
  • Jet Vac Vacuum Truck
  • Plate compactors, air knife, compressors, rock pick, various hand tools

General Comments

  • Labour intensive with 15 workers on the job.
  • Local suppliers sourced for concrete, metal and ashphalt.
  • Machine operation in confined work areas.
  • High numbers of services to contend with.
  • Great level of quality and safe work completed.

  • Divert traffic
  • Remove track set, excavate to grade, back fill, place ballast and grade to finished levels
  • Assist in placing tracksets
  • Reinstate temporary road
  • Worked in with KiwiRail on site
  • Tight timeframe of works on SH1
